At the end of 2017, Shirley Bridges was admitted to the hospital for a routine heart valve replacement procedure. Unfortunately, her surgery became anything but routine. She ended up with a pacemaker. She was on a ventilator and a feeding tube and could not walk or even get out of bed. “I went in for surgery in August and I did not really wake up until November, it was shocking.”

Shirley, then an active 82-year-old who had previously walked without assistance and enjoyed volunteering in her community, was left reeling from the news of her surgery. Everything changed for the better once she was admitted. She was assigned two primary physical and occupational therapists. “Katie and Bea were my angels. They were with me every step of the way. Shirley is now at an assisted living with plans to be back home in next 20 days. “I am able to walk with the assistance of a rollator or a cane. I never imagined that I would be able to get back to this level of independence after what I had been through. God has blessed me in so many ways.”
